Inspiration

I'm part of the largest Facebook group for men in Egypt, with over 2.7 million members. Every year during Ramadan, I see hundreds of thousands of posts from proud fathers asking for a certificate of recognition for their sons and daughters who managed to fast. Kind-hearted members in the group respond by designing personalized certificates, and the reactions are always filled with overwhelming joy, gratitude, and love. That energy, that pure sense of appreciation, deeply inspired me.

That’s when the idea hit me — to create an app that makes it easy for anyone to recognize and celebrate the people they care about. An app that spreads love and gratitude, one certificate at a time.

And here’s the crazy part: I’ve never written code in my life. Beyond a few lines of HTML using online tools, I had zero development experience. But Bolt.new changed that completely.

Bolt.new gave me the power to build systems, websites, and meaningful tools — including this one. It turned an idea into a real product. And on the very first day of testing, I made a certificate for my wife. She didn’t know I was testing anything — but when she saw it, she was glowing with happiness.

Since then, every certificate I sent to a friend or loved one brought the same reaction — smiles, joy, sometimes even tears. That’s when I knew: this isn’t just an app. It’s a way to share feelings.

What it does

Kindly is a web app that allows anyone to instantly generate and send beautiful certificates of appreciation to the people who matter in their lives — kids, spouses, friends, coworkers, students, or even strangers.

The app is simple, fast, and designed to bring joy. Users can: • Choose from multiple certificate templates. • Customize the name, reason for recognition, and sender. • Instantly download or share the certificate via a public link. • Add a personal message to make it more heartfelt.

Whether it’s a colleague who helped with a tough task, or a spouse who simply deserves to be seen — this app makes it easy to say “I see you. I appreciate you.”

Kindly turns small gestures into lasting memories. It’s not just about certificates — it’s about connection.

How we built it

It all started with a conversation.

I explained my idea to ChatGPT and asked it to act as a Product Owner. It generated a complete set of requirements, detailed user stories, and clear acceptance criteria — all tailored for building a certificate generation app.

Then, I simply copied and pasted that output into Bolt.new, and… magic happened ✨

Bolt.new took the structured input and turned it into a working full-stack application. It handled everything — from setting up the frontend interface to backend logic and deployment — with zero manual configuration. I made some tweaks along the way, but the heavy lifting was done by AI.

In just a short time, what started as an emotional idea turned into a fully functional product — ready to spread joy and gratitude.

Challenges we ran into

This journey wasn’t smooth.

On June 2nd, I underwent surgery and spent a full week in bed recovering, barely able to sit up or use my laptop. It took me another week to slowly regain enough energy to start building — which meant I was already starting late.

Thankfully, Bolt.new made it incredibly easy to catch up. Its speed and simplicity gave me the push I needed to keep going, even when I wasn’t at full strength.

But then, on June 18th, I had to undergo another minor procedure, which put me out of action again for a few days. At that point, I nearly gave up. I thought: “The app isn’t where I want it to be. Maybe I shouldn’t even submit.”

But then I remembered why I started — to spread love, joy, and recognition.

Just like Bolt.new inspired thousands of people through this hackathon, I decided to do my part and share my app with the world — even if it wasn’t perfect. Because joy doesn’t wait for perfection.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the setbacks, we built a working app that actually makes people smile.

Here’s what I’m most proud of: • I launched a complete product from just an idea, with the help of ChatGPT and Bolt.new — all while recovering from surgery. • I saw real emotional reactions from the first people I sent certificates to — especially my wife, who was deeply touched without even knowing I was testing something. • I proved to myself that even in hard personal moments, I can still create something meaningful that brings joy to others. • I stayed true to the mission — to spread gratitude and appreciation in a world that needs more of it.

This wasn’t just about shipping software. It was about sharing love in a digital form. And for me, that’s the biggest win.

What we learned

This hackathon taught me far more than how to build an app — it reminded me why we build in the first place.

Here’s what I learned: • AI is no longer just a tool — it’s a teammate. ChatGPT helped me think like a product owner. Bolt.new helped me build like an engineer. Together, they made it possible for one person to ship a full-stack product in days. • Speed creates courage. When you can bring ideas to life quickly, you’re more willing to try, test, and improve — even when life throws challenges at you. • Gratitude is powerful. Sending a certificate of recognition might seem simple, but I saw firsthand how deeply it touches people. It reminded me that technology, at its best, connects us emotionally — not just functionally. • Progress beats perfection. I almost didn’t submit this project because it wasn’t “perfect.” But I learned that sharing something real and meaningful is more important than getting every detail right.

This journey wasn’t just about learning new tools — it was about rediscovering purpose.

What's next for Kindly

This is just the beginning.

Kindly started as a simple tool to spread love and gratitude. But its future is much bigger — and more impactful.

Here’s where we’re heading next: • Personalized Templates for Everyone: We’ll expand our library of certificate templates to support various occasions, languages, and cultural moments — making recognition accessible to all. • Scheduled Recognition: Users will be able to schedule certificates in advance for birthdays, milestones, Ramadan, school achievements, or “just because” moments — with reminders built in. • Multi-Channel Delivery: In addition to downloading and sharing links, users will soon be able to send certificates directly via Email, SMS, and RCS, turning digital recognition into something even more personal and timely. • Mobile-first Optimization: A seamless mobile experience will ensure anyone can recognize someone on the go — in just seconds. • AI-Powered Suggestions: We’ll use AI to suggest recognition opportunities based on important dates, relationship patterns, or user behavior — so no good deed goes unnoticed. • Business & Education Platform: We’re building a dedicated track for companies and educational institutions. Organizations will be able to: • Create branded certificates with their logo and tone. • Automate sending recognitions to employees, students, or members. • Track engagement and boost morale at scale — with zero friction.

We envision Kindly becoming the go-to tool for meaningful appreciation — at home, in classrooms, and across workplaces around the world.

Because a simple “thank you” can change everything.
