Inspiration

The LGBTQ+ community faces persistent challenges, including discrimination, limited acceptance, and unequal access to opportunities. Studies reveal that 53% of LGBTQ+ individuals face daily abuse, and 70% of Indian firms admit to not taking any steps toward their inclusion. These barriers negatively affect mental health, professional growth, and overall well-being. Many individuals lack access to legal aid, skill development resources, and job opportunities, leading to social and economic exclusion. Furthermore, the absence of inclusive platforms exacerbates feelings of isolation and restricts community empowerment.

What it does

To address these challenges, we developed “YOU: Your Own Universe,” a comprehensive digital platform designed to support the LGBTQ+ community holistically. This app offers tools for skill development, mental health support, legal aid, job placements, and community interaction. By integrating these resources into a single platform, YOU creates a safe and supportive environment that fosters personal and professional growth while promoting societal inclusion and acceptance.

Main Features:

  1. Community Identification: Helps users identify and connect with their respective communities.
  2. Mental Health Support: Features a chatbot, "Rainbow Bot," to offer emotional support and connect users with professional counseling if needed.
  3. Personalization: Uses AI to customize the user experience, providing tailored recommendations for skill development, job opportunities, and community activities.
  4. Safeguard Against Abuse: Includes mechanisms to identify and address abusive behavior within the platform, ensuring user safety and well-being.

Add-On Features:

  1. Skill Development: Provides training and resources for acquiring new skills, such as AI, coding, and creative arts, tailored to users’ interests and career goals.
  2. Job Opportunities: Connects users with job platforms and employers who value diversity, ensuring equal opportunities based on skills and experience.
  3. Legal Aid: Offers resources to report abuse, access helplines, and understand legal rights and government procedures.

How we built it

  1. Programming Languages: Python and Flutter for cross-platform app development.
  2. AI Frameworks: TensorFlow and GeminiAPI for implementing personalized recommendations and chatbot functionalities.
  3. Backend Services: Firebase for secure data storage and real-time database management.
  4. Design Tools: Figma for user interface and experience design.
  5. Integration Platforms: APIs for connecting with job portals, helplines, and educational content providers.
  6. Cloud Services: Google Cloud for scalable infrastructure and AI deployment.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Improve design, accessibility, and user experience across all screens.
  2. Integrate interactive learning modules, personalized paths, and gamification.
  3. Expand content, provide updated legal resources, and possibly legal chat support.
  4. Connect with companies and integrate job listings and partnerships.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. Gemini API involves AI in Data Science by using generative AI and natural language processing (NLP) to analyze unstructured data and generate insights or content from it.
  2. TensorFlow involves AI in Data Science by providing a framework for building and deploying machine learning models and deep learning neural networks for predictive analytics and data-driven decision-making.
  3. Sentiment Analysis (checking the sentiments of the user while answering the questions in mental health chatbot)
