You Will Die Soon
Inspiration
The idea for You Will Die Soon came from the desire to help people confront the reality of their limited time and use it wisely. Inspired by the philosophy of memento mori, this project isn’t about recklessness or "YOLO"—it’s about living with purpose and focus. We all have roughly 4,680 weeks to live, and too many of us spend that time worrying about trivial matters, staying stuck in unfulfilling routines, or putting off dreams because they feel too distant.
The core insight is simple: what we worry about today often doesn’t matter in the long run. By confronting our mortality, we gain the clarity needed to make bold, meaningful decisions that shape our lives intentionally. You Will Die Soon helps users reflect on their true desires, focus on what truly matters, and break free from distractions.
What it does
You Will Die Soon is a life optimization platform designed to help users journal their dreams, goals, and desires, then turn them into actionable steps. By reflecting on what truly matters, you create a list of your hopes and dreams, things that would make you feel confident, accomplished, and fulfilled.
Once you’ve listed your goals, You Will Die Soon uses AI-powered personalized weekly nudges to keep you on track. These reminders are tailored to your individual profile, ensuring that you’re making consistent progress on your list of dreams. The platform transforms your “someday” list into a schedule—so you’re not just dreaming about the future, you’re actively building it.
The goal is to live intentionally, check off your dreams, and avoid dying with regrets. This tool blends Stoicism with practical, action-driven advice to ensure that every week spent is one that moves you closer to the life you truly want.
How I built it
The project was built using Bolt.new, which allowed me to leverage its AI-powered features to create personalized journaling and reminder systems. The core functionality revolves around the ability to journal life goals, aspirations, and bucket list items, then receive weekly reminders to help users stay focused on their priorities.
The platform uses personalized AI nudges to send tailored weekly prompts, ensuring that users are making progress and moving forward with their goals. The AI tracks progress over time, adjusting the nudges based on the user’s activity and goals.
The design is minimalist but meaningful—dark, reflective themes paired with the urgency of light gold accents to evoke a sense of purposeful living.
For the backend, I used Supabase for database management, and Netlify for hosting the project. Stripe was integrated for processing payments for premium features. These technologies helped streamline the platform’s functionality and ensure smooth user experiences.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was finding the right tone for the AI-powered nudges. It had to be supportive and motivating without feeling too pushy or heavy. Mortality awareness can be a sensitive subject, and striking the balance between urgency and encouragement was key.
Another challenge was creating a platform that is simple to use yet powerful enough to drive real progress. The weekly nudges need to be just the right balance of personalized, actionable, and impactful, not overwhelming the user, but still ensuring they make progress on their goals.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I’m proud to have created a personalized life optimization tool that encourages users to live intentionally while providing gentle reminders to act. You Will Die Soon doesn’t just remind you that life is short—it helps you do something about it.
The platform has the potential to change how people approach their dreams, allowing them to schedule their desires, track progress, and avoid procrastination. Most importantly, it shows people that living intentionally is not about being reckless—it’s about making decisions with purpose, knowing that your time is precious.
What I learned
Creating You Will Die Soon taught me that mortality awareness isn’t just about confronting death—it’s about recognizing life’s value. It’s about making decisions with an understanding of time’s limited nature, not out of fear, but out of clarity. I also learned that users want to act on their dreams, but they need support and structure to turn those dreams into action.
Building the AI-powered weekly nudges system showed me how small, personalized reminders can have a huge impact on helping users take the next step in their journey toward their most authentic life.
What's next for You Will Die Soon
Moving forward, I plan to expand the platform’s capabilities by adding more personalized life tools. Upcoming features include:
- Enhanced Goal Tracking: A more dynamic, visual way to track and monitor progress on long-term and short-term goals.
- Community Features: A space for users to share their experiences, support each other, and celebrate accomplishments.
- Mobile Integration: Push notifications and daily reminders to ensure users stay on top of their goals throughout the week.
- Expert Integration: Partnering with coaches, therapists, and mentors who can use the platform to help their clients focus on purposeful living.
- Expanded Content: Resources and workshops for major life transitions, career changes, and personal growth.
- Further Expanding Location-Based Recommendations: Offering tailored suggestions for activities, events, and opportunities based on the user's location. This feature will help users find nearby classes, workshops, and experiences that align with their goals—making it easier for them to take actionable steps and immerse themselves in local communities that support their personal growth.
Ultimately, the goal is to expand the platform’s reach, making it a go-to tool for those looking to live intentionally, make bold choices, and leave a legacy.
