Inspiration

My children's questions about COVID-19, and finding a way to answer them and help them deal with their feelings inspired me to write this book.

What it does

explains COVID-19 to children, answers their questions, and helps them deal with their feelings.

How I built it

Illustrations done with watercolor and colored pencils.

Challenges I ran into

When a friend suggested that I enter this contest, I thought it was impossible to write a book in such a short time. I needed to do research, come up with an engaging story, and do the illustrations. Also, having three children, and a new dog at home all the time, meant I really had to use my time wisely.

What I learned

I learned that I can rise up to the challenge and have a book in 15 days. A big accomplishment! There were times I felt like i wanted to give up. But my five year old used my own words against me and said, "Mommy, remember what you always say, finish what you started." This experience forced me to reflect and ask myself this question, "Was it worth it sacrificing my time away from my children and my family to do this?" I have so much respect for parents who work from home.
