Inspiration
Our inspiration for "You Have Food at Home" is mainly due to the abnormous amount of food wastage around the world. Hence, one way to reduce it is to remind yourself that you still have food at home, please finish them.
What it does
The primary purpose is to record food, in the fridge or pantry and set a reminder of when it's going to expire. You will receive a notification reminding you of food that has been bought for a long time, or that they're about to go bad. To make your life easier, rather than typing each and every one of the foods you buy, you can simply scan your receipt and items would be listed out for you. You still have to manually enter the expiry date and alert though.
Just for fun, there is a leaderboard too, where you gain points when you finish a food item and lose points if it has expired. You get to compete with fellow friends and other users to satisfy the competitiveness deep within you.
How we built it
We used Figma as our tool to design the pages and prototype. Ideally, we would use React as our front-end, MongoDb and Flask as our back-end.
Challenges we ran into
Since we do not have front-end and back-end experience, the prototype was, unfortunately, not implemented due to the time constraint.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Even though we only have the prototype done, we are still happy with it since our efforts are not wasted. We loved the idea and app design that we have.
What we learned
We learned UI/UX skills when designing our prototype. We also learned project planning, from ideation to design to implementation
What's next for You Have Food at Home
In the future, recipes could be suggested for the food you have left. This would be helpful for those who don't cook often and need recommendations.
