Inspiration
Through personal experience playing pick-up basketball at the local gym, we aim to solve the problem of getting your spot taken in line.
What it does
Inspired by the simplicity and effectiveness of the Yelp kiosk interface, You Got Next? enables any average person to form a team and reserve their spot in line. Through verification, a player can create a personal account to join and create teams with other individuals. You Got Next? is connected to a database that keeps track of player, team, and match histories.
How we built it
With the teamwork of two dedicated developers, You Got Next? was built using Express, CSS, NodeJS, and JS. In addition, we connected it to a SQLite3 database to house user data.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was being shorthanded and inexperienced for this event. Our team consisted of two 3rd year undergrad developers who have each only participated in one other hackathon. In addition to this overarching challenge, we struggled with using unfamiliar languages to write the front and back ends of the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to create an appealing and simple interface, as well as a decently functional project. The various components that we worked on together and separately did not only morph together to form a product for this hackathon, but also an idea and solution to a problem that we can perfect in the future.
What we learned
We learned how to create a pleasing user interface, create/connect/query a custom database, leverage A.I. for productivity, and improved our version control practices.
What's next for You Got Next?
We will refine our interface to have smoother transitions and fine detail design. We will also add more functionality, such as the estimated wait time, personal profiles, and account verification through camera recognition. With these improvements, we will hopefully deploy our product for the public and those who struggle with holding their spot in line!
