Inspiration
Kylian Mbappe and Hans Niemann inspired us to create this innovative new game, mixing together the great traditions and rich histories of soccer and chess.
What it does
Chessoccer is a game in which two players face off against each other in an intense match of brains and "brawn".
How we built it
We built this game with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and Python. We all collaborated on the same document using repl.it, allowing us to each work on our own parts while merging it all instantly.
Challenges we ran into
None of us were particularly experienced with HTML, JS, or CSS, so we had to learn a lot on the fly. This included basics of CSS formatting and editing a webpage with JS. In addition, all of the engaging events, activities, and workshops offered during the hackathon posed a great challenge to our team productivity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This project provided us with an opportunity to expand our knowledge and skill sets in front-end web development. It was our first collaborative project-creation experience at a hackathon. We surprised ourselves with our ability to implement all of our ideas in code in under 24 hours.
What we learned
We have learned that vanilla JavaScript is not the most optimal tool for front-end development. All of us have definitely gained lifelong knowledge on basic JS and HTML principles.
What's next for Chessoccer
We plan on adding an online multiplayer system in the future. Also, we would like to make an engine to solve and optimize our brand new game.
