Inspiration

During covid 19 pandemic, social restrictions and uncertainty towards human life created huge impact on human behaviour and communication in society. Isolation from family and friends lead to mental health issues and became huge concern in the world. In order to resolve this issue and make our neighbourhood better place clearly home is the best place to start with. Communal harmony is one such way to do this. Our application “You Belong” is an attempt to connect people in the community by helping them to find a job, donate food and clothes to needy people and find friends. In short, “You belong” is an attempt to help people find their real home and bring happiness in our lives.

What it does

Our application allows residents in the community to connect and help each other via a web application. This website helps residents find different jobs within a community, donate items to those who are in need and request items from those who can afford to share item, and find someone to talk to within a community. The application also enables residents to organise various events in community.

How we built it

We built this web application using Angular in front end , SQLite for database management and Python Flask as a framework to connect the REST API with Angular .

We used Angular for the UI development of the application. Four different REST APIs are developed for the POST operation of data which is entered by employee, employees and find pal users. Different GET services are developed to fetch data related to job seeking and donations in the community. All these services are integrated with Angular and connected with SQLite database using the Python Flask framework. It is a microweb framework implemented in python.

Challenges we ran into

As we were appearing for hackathon very first time, building a solution in short period of time was a bit challenging for us. Another challenge we ran into was to decide the solid and creative problem statement which consumed most of our time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We learnt quickly about Flask python farmwork and used it in our solution. We are also proud to present an innovative product idea help people find happiness and ultimately make society a better place.

What we learned

While working on this project we actually learnt the real-life applications of technologies we study during our coursework. We extended understandings on Angular, SQLite, Python Flask and Rest APIs development.

What's next for You Belong

The data synchronisation between our features “Find a Job” and “Find a Pal” can be considered as a future scope of this project. Current implementation of you belong is on community level. However, it can also be implemented on a larger scale such as cities or states.
