Yoshi Doesn't Commit Tax Fraud

Inspiration

Filing taxes is scary for everyone regardless of age and person. Because of this, we wanted to create a game that allowed users to files taxes in a way that is fun and educational.

What it does

It teaches the user about filing their taxes and why it is so to stay organized when filling out important documents. It also teaches users how to glean information from documents and stories. Users learn organization skills, staying accurate, and why Yoshi is such an amazing character.

How we built it

We used Java as the backbones and the main language, JavaFX to create the user interface, and Photoshop to make scenes.

Challenges we ran into

As we began creating the game, we ran into intricacies that needed to be clarified and accounted for. But the biggest challenge by far was the time constraint of 24 hours. As a team we had to pick and choose features that we thought were essential to the game, and drop others that we did not have the time for.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team we are very proud that we were able to create a functional video game in the timeline. It was very challenging, but by utilizing each of our strengths we were able to finish Yoshi's Tax Turmoil in time.

What we learned

While developing and creating Yoshi's Tax Turmoil our team learned why communication and collaboration is so important. It is very important for everyone to be on the same boat and understand and the final goal is. Another lesson we learned was the challenges associated with generating randomized content that fits in specific parameters.

What's next for Yoshi's Tax Turmoil

There are two main areas that we can improve Yoshi's Tax Turmoil to make it even more educational and engaging with the users. One, implement levels of randomness and levels of complexity to the tax filing scenarios. This enables every playthrough to be a fresh and challenging experience. It also allows the user to check if their skills in tax filing. Two, we can expand the educational value of Yoshi' Tax Turmoil by linking information and reasources that could help the user in tax filing and organization. By implementing these enahncements, we can improve the user experience and take Yoshi's Tax Turmoil to the next level.
