Inspiration

I planned to build a project last year with Yoruba proverbs, but I was unable to do so as I couldn't find a well-documented data source containing Yoruba proverbs.

What it does

The project is a curated list of Yoruba Proverbs that can be used to build an API or a proverb app. It provides a comprehensive collection of Yoruba proverbs for developers and researchers alike.

How we built it

We scrapped Telegram channels and a Twitter account that contained Yoruba proverbs. We then cleaned and organized the data in a neat JSON format. This process involved going through over 50,000 lines of data from the Twitter and Telegram API.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was cleaning the data. This process required a lot of time and attention to detail to ensure that the proverbs were accurate and organized in the JSON format.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to create a curated list of Yoruba proverbs that will be available forever for anyone to use. This project will be a valuable resource for developers and researchers in the Yoruba community and beyond.

What we learned

We learned how to extract data using Python and various libraries, as well as how to work with JSON files. We also gained experience in data cleaning and organization.

What's next for Yoruba Proverb

Our next step is to distribute the Yoruba Proverb and make it widely available for people to find it useful. We hope to continue to improve the project and make a positive impact on the Yoruba community and beyond.
