Inspiration
Our main inspiration for yoop! was our shared interest in puzzles and video games.
What it does
yoop! is a single player puzzle game in which the objective for each level is to move a designated block to the outside of a corral filled with cuboids of varying lengths. However, this is a deceivingly easy task. If the player moves one cuboid, all cuboids on the same axis will move.
How we built it
We built yoop! using Unity. We started with implementing the base game mechanics such as the blocks sliding and a collision detector at the end. Then, we sketched level designs and built them with the base game mechanics. Finally, after making all the levels, we implemented the UI menu screen with a level selector.
Challenges we ran into
- The collisions between blocks and against the walls of the - corral
- Synchronizing the movement of blocks of the same alignment
- Crafting the game’s levels
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We realized that our original project was too complex to complete within the given timeframe, so we started yoop! halfway through the hackathon. We are proud of the fact that we created a full game in a third of the allotted time.
What we learned
Through yoop!, we learned more about the Unity framework, C#, level design, and file management.
What's next for yoop!
In the future, we will enhance yoop!’s graphics and add more levels. We also plan for it to be added to the Google Play Store.
