Inspiration

The inspiration behind Yojana Sahayak (योजना सहायक) came from a real problem I noticed around me.

Many students and people in my community know that government schemes and scholarships exist, but they often don't know which scheme they are eligible for, when applications open, when they close, or what documents are required.

Because of this, people often have to visit an e-Mitra or service centre repeatedly just to ask about schemes and application dates.

The idea became personal when one of my college friends missed a scholarship opportunity because he didn't know which scholarship he was eligible for and when he needed to apply. By the time he found out, the application opportunity had already passed.

That made me think: If one student can miss a scholarship simply because they didn't receive the right information at the right time, how many other students and citizens might be facing the same problem?

This experience inspired me to build Yojana Sahayak.

What it does

Yojana Sahayak is an AI-powered application designed to help students and citizens discover and understand government schemes and scholarships more easily.

Users can provide information about their situation and requirements, and the application helps them identify potentially relevant schemes.

Yojana Sahayak aims to help users understand:

  • Which schemes or scholarships may be relevant to them
  • Basic eligibility requirements
  • Important application information
  • Required documents
  • Application start and closing dates, when available
  • Where and how to apply
  • Important things to check before submitting an application

The goal is to make scheme discovery easier so that people don't have to depend entirely on repeated visits to service centres just to find basic information.

Yojana Sahayak is designed as a digital guide, not a replacement for official government portals. Users should verify important information on the relevant official source before applying.

How we built it

We built Yojana Sahayak using Google AI Studio and Gemini.

We focused on creating a simple and user-friendly experience where users can describe their needs in normal language instead of having to understand complicated government terminology.

We used AI to help process user requirements and provide understandable guidance about potentially relevant government schemes and scholarships.

A major part of the development process involved prompt engineering. We worked on structuring prompts so that the AI could provide responses in a clear, organized, and useful format.

We also focused on making the interface simple enough that students and non-technical users can use it without needing special technical knowledge.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was dealing with the complexity of government schemes.

Different schemes can have different eligibility criteria, categories, documents, application periods, and conditions. Presenting all of this information in a simple way without confusing the user was challenging.

Another challenge was designing AI responses that were useful, structured, and easy to understand, rather than producing long or complicated answers.

We also recognized an important challenge with information that changes over time, especially application deadlines and scheme availability. This made it important to position Yojana Sahayak as a discovery and guidance tool while encouraging users to verify critical information through official sources.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that Yojana Sahayak started from a real problem experienced by someone close to us and turned into a working AI-based solution.

We are especially proud of:

  • Turning a real-life problem into an AI application
  • Building the project using Google AI Studio and Gemini
  • Creating a simple experience for users who may not be technically experienced
  • Designing the application around students and citizens rather than technology alone
  • Using AI to make complicated information easier to understand
  • Building a project with a practical social impact

For us, the biggest accomplishment is that the idea is not just a technology demonstration—it is an attempt to solve a problem we have personally seen.

What we learned

Building Yojana Sahayak taught us that a good AI project starts with understanding a real problem, not simply choosing a technology.

We learned how to use Google AI Studio and Gemini, create and improve prompts, structure AI-generated responses, and design an AI experience around actual user needs.

We also learned that AI applications require careful thinking about accuracy, changing information, user trust, and responsible communication.

Most importantly, we learned that even a small experience—like a friend missing a scholarship—can reveal a much bigger problem affecting many other people.

What's next for Yojana Sahayak (योजना सहायक)

Our next goal is to make Yojana Sahayak more reliable, comprehensive, and useful for real users.

Our long-term vision is simple:

No student or citizen should miss a potentially useful government scheme simply because they didn't know about it in time.

Yojana Sahayak aims to become a simple digital companion that helps people discover, understand, and act on the opportunities available to them.
