🌍Inspiration
In 2022 I went to visit Australia and stayed studying there for almost two years.
As most of immigrants I was doing jobs I wasn´t happy with and started promoting my Coaching services in Latin American´s Whatsapp groups of Australia and Denmark initialy. While doing that I saw how many other professionals were also offering services remotely in groups all arround the world.
Last year, when comming back to my country I decided that I could do for others what I was doing for me and created a WhatsApp group to support their outreach: language teachers, designers, psychologists, coaches, personal trainers — more than thirty people across twenty categories, promoted through my group in more than 100 Whatsapp groups of Latin American´s in Australia, Germany, Canada, Spain, Denmark, Holland, Italy, Ireland and New Zealand.
As the network grew, I launched an Instagram account to better showcase their work and asked two other remote workers' for help to manage it. At that point, another idea started growing inside me. If I was already trying to build something that opened doors for others, why not go further — and make sure those opportunities came with fair working conditions, respect, and a positive impact on the environment? That was the moment when Yo Trabajo Remoto began to take shape as more than just a platform. I envisioned a project with a triple impact — social, economic, and environmental — where both professionals and companies could be part of something meaningful.
A space that not only connects people, but also encourages responsibility, dignity, and purpose in the world of remote work.
✨ What it does
Yo Trabajo Remoto is a trilingual web platform that connects Latin American professionals with companies around the world through remote work opportunities.
Users can create public profiles that include their skills, languages, short bio, geolocation, and areas of interest. Companies can browse and discover talent based on professional categories, languages, or impact level.
The platform has two types of users: professionals looking to offer their services remotely, and companies seeking to hire Latin American talent. Each user has access to a personalized dashboard where they can update their information and explore additional features.
We also introduced a Commitment Account model: by upgrading, users unlock tools like messaging, visibility, and social media links — and contribute to real-world triple-impact projects that support environmental and social progress.
Unlike generic job boards, Yo Trabajo Remoto aims to be a community where purpose, accessibility, and responsibility come together.
It’s not just about finding work — it’s about building better futures.
🛠How we built it Tools: React TypeScript Vite Tailwind CSS Leaflet Supabase (initially) Netlify LocalStorage Markdown ChatGPT (for technical collaboration) Bolt by StackBlitz
🚧 Challenges we ran into
Everything about this opportunity was a challenge. Designing, programming or anything related to building this platform was a challenge from the beginning. This is as far as my confort zone can be. I didn´t even know what was a prompt when I signed up, but as part of this Hackaton was the idea of showing that almost anyone can build almost anything with this tools I said why not!, you were waiting for the opportunity to put what was inside your head outside it...if you don´t take it, you will regret it. Those were the thoughts that kept me going through all this long, exhausting and rich journey. (I see developers in a whole other way right now, almost in the same line as firefighters :)
🏆Accomplishments that we're proud of
-Learning how to structure a bilingual web app with React and Vite -Understanding how to design separate user flows for professionals and companies -Discovering how to integrate geolocation with Leaflet to visualize user profiles -Creating an intuitive layout using Tailwind CSS from scratch -Exploring the logic behind premium feature models like the Commitment Account -Learning how to collaborate effectively with an AI to turn ideas into code -Developing a clear vision of how a digital platform can combine technology and social impact
📚 What we learned
-How to design user experiences that are inclusive, purposeful, and easy to navigate -How to manage multiple user types and states within the same platform -The value of geolocation and filtering to improve visibility and discoverability -That simplicity, clarity, and alignment with core values are essential to product design -How technical tools and social impact goals can work together — not separately
🚀 What's next for Yo trabajo remoto -Build a team that believes in the purpose of this project -Activate a database to store real profiles and allow dynamic updates -Launch a pilot with real professionals and companies committed to triple impact -Refine the Commitment Account logic to include premium features and project contributions -Expand language options and accessibility tools -Seek partnerships with impact-driven organizations and hiring platforms -Continue building a community that redefines what remote work can mean for Latin America and the world
