The problem your project solves

In a matter of weeks, coronavirus (COVID-19) has changed how students are educated around the world. It has been shown that our centuries-old, lecture-based approach to teaching in school and universities can be easily disturbed and we can see the slow pace of change in academic institutions all over the world now. But, COVID-19 has become a catalyst for a lot of people to find innovative solutions for learning problems in a relatively short period. As students ourselves, our way of approaching our dreams and future professions twisted for 180 degrees and that is why we wanted to join the fight for knowledge and more effective online learning. Zoom, MS Teams, Moodle, Google Suite, Slack, millions of group chats, emails and files became our lifestyle. Using dozens of different platforms and applications at the same time is both crashing our devices and our brains, that are not prepared to switch. On top of that, not having human interactions makes learning difficult for a lot of students. The situation did not help even professors, that need to prepare all the lectures and have much less time to reply to our additional questions or needs.

The solution you bring to the table (including technical details, architecture, tools used)

Thus we are here proposing YNOT as a possible solution. Our idea is simple: why not merging all the best features spread around different apps in one single app, the app where you can find everything you need for your educational purposes quickly with a peer to peer interaction between students, professors and experts. Connecting everyone through the big unique platform where you can share your knowledge or simply look for information or help you need easily. We are proposing a way to SHARE the knowledge and FIND knowledge quickly (in 3-4 minutes) and in an efficient way. You can surf through DEDICATED CHANNELS, find all previous videos, projects and posts, as well as posting your question or simply chat with members. Your post will be notified to all the members of that channel. Channels available will be related to trend topics (COVID for example) and school/universities content. Later on, other options will be added (like creating your channel if you are an institution willing to communicate something).

What you have done during the weekend

The prototype of the mobile app is created via Adobe Illustrator, using Invision Studio to make it usable. It will be a mobile app at the start because smartphones and mobile devices are way more accessible than computers and PC. A prototype is working for some of his features and main tabs right now. We also created a Business Plan (linked below).

The solution’s impact on the crisis

What YNOT wants to provide is a single app which can include many features. An app which is easy to use for every student, considering different ages. With YNOT we will be able to have meetings with experts, which can join the platform and have webinars or upload videos. Then we want to upload a DM feature to improve communication between students and teachers and experts.

The necessities to continue the project

Finding team skilled for prototyping The User Flows and the Graphic Design as well as Development (Coding) Testing with students as a target group Support and Optimization (Based on the user- and market feedback- improving app)

The value of your solution(s) after the crisis

It has been shown that our centuries-old, lecture-based approach to teaching in school and universities can be easily disturbed and we can see the slow pace of change in academic institutions all over the world now. An application like this can reshape the way we learn even after the crisis. We see potential in it as it can be developed simply by users finding a creative way to interact with each other. The app can also help countries when they are facing their crisis, which can affect the education of their students. In our view, this can be a good opportunity to find even future collaborators on projects or mentors regarding the research you want to do, without travelling or studying abroad. As a digital generation, we need to maximise usage of technologies we have, and Ynot is one good stepstone towards the education of the 21st century
