Inspiration

Our project draws inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of traditional Chinese shadow puppetry, which has captivated audiences for centuries with its artistry and storytelling. We sought to preserve and reimagine this timeless art form by blending it with the evocative beauty of ancient Chinese poetry. By utilizing XR technology, we aimed to create an immersive digital experience that bridges the past and the future, offering users a unique way to engage with Chinese culture.

What it does

YingXuan XR transforms the traditional shadow art into an interactive and immersive experience. Users can explore beautifully crafted shadow scenes inspired by ancient poetry, interact with dynamic characters, and immerse themselves in a virtual environment that brings the charm and rhythm of Chinese culture to life. The project offers both educational and entertainment value, providing users with a deeper appreciation of the art and stories behind shadow puppetry.

How we built it

We utilized advanced XR development tools and platforms to create YingXuan XR. The design process involved crafting intricate shadow puppets inspired by traditional aesthetics, incorporating the rhythmic flow of classical Chinese poems, and integrating them into a virtual space using 3D modeling and animation. Custom lighting and shadow algorithms were implemented to simulate the authentic look and feel of shadow play, while interactive features were developed to enhance user engagement.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was maintaining the authenticity of traditional shadow puppetry while adapting it for a digital format. Capturing the subtle interplay of light, shadow, and movement required meticulous design and technical innovation. Additionally, translating the mood and tone of ancient Chinese poetry into an interactive experience posed a creative challenge, as it required a balance between preserving cultural integrity and delivering an engaging user experience.

What's next for YingXuan XR
