Inspiration: GPT
After a long stint on building a patent analyzer tool we wanted some space from that project and just do something FUN. We've been kicking the GPT tires and live in Slack, so decided to see what we could build there.
Who we are: Long time friends who met at Sauce Labs in 2013
Ryan Lambert DATA SCIENCE Prev: Sauce Labs, Citadel, American Express, Work Fusion, Padex, and now Yenta.
Jonah Stiennon ENGINEERING Prev: Sauce Labs, Cloud Grey, Eaze, Origins, Stratasys, and now Yenta.
Raechel Lambert GROWTH Prev: Sauce Labs, Intercom, Olivine (Meta, ServiceNow, Twilio), Padex, and now Yenta.
What it does: AI Knowledge Base in Slack
Ask @YentaBot questions in Slack and it will answer based on content that's been indexed in public channels.
How we built it: GPT3 + RAG
Yenta Bot is powered by GPT3 + RAG and built into Slack.
Challenges we ran into
Distribution. Slack API calls. Not enough hours in the day. We're in our late 30s so all-nighters don't come easily. Our demo Slack didn't have a lot of data so the answers weren't great.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It actually answers questions! Really happy with how the branding came together (Slack is a fun product to work with).
What we learned
We work really well together and are all hyper-focused on solving a real pain point. Skillset coverage/diversity is key to actually shipping fast.
What's next for Yenta Bot
Maybe add Discord and Zoom as data channels to move beyond being a SlackBot. Launch on Product Hunt? YC? Who knows!
