Inspiration

  • Something interactive and fun while showing off mechatronic systems - physical components that move and actuate, electrical components that do cool things with sensory information, and software that drives user interaction.

What it does

  • When a user enters the vision of the camera, the CV algorithm detects when the person raises their hands, indicating that they want candy. The robotic system verbally asks which of the three types of candy the user wants, and centers them in the frame, lining them up for the shot with the catapult. (Not implemented:) The catapult rotates underneath the chute with the candy that the user requested for, and the kicker mechanism of that chute kicks an individual candy bar into the bucket of the catapult, launching towards the user, guided with the distance derived from the Lidar sensor.

How we built it

  • Used SolidWorks to build the 3D-printed parts

Challenges we ran into

  • Orin Jetson Nano board broke and wasn't able to send signals to stepper motor driver.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Doing lots of CAD!

What we learned

  • Plan hardware projects extremely thoroughly before the hackathon period starts.
