Inspiration
I was thinking "What would be something 2000s themed that everyone would be able to recognise?" and older versions of paint had immediately crossed my mind.
What it does
Admittedly, it doesn't really do much besides look pretty as the backend was never implemented into the frontend
How we built it
A lot of the work I had made using pixel art through the free website "Pixilart" with the board being made in Microsoft Paint, as what else could I do to really hit home the vibe of a paint themed monopoly game? As for the javascript, I am unsure.
Challenges we ran into
About 5 hours into the project, my three teamates had left me as they were also very busy with coursework and as such, I had to continue the project myself and alongside my struggles with CSS which was beginning to stress me out as I was struggling to have the divisions and images placed where I wanted them to.
My teamates leaving was particularly bad as I have no experience with working with javascript and had to take it upon myself to figure out what the javascript did and then implement it into the HTML, which I was unfortunately never able to do, especially due to the fact that I believe the javascript was unfortunately vibecoded by my teamates which only further added to my stress.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What I'm most proud about this project is finally figuring out how to make the CSS do what I wanted it to do, I was ecstatic when it had finally begun to work after hours of changing numbers and adding properties to the various divisions and images until it worked.
What we learned
I have learnt quite a bit in frontend development, especially with trying to get CSS to behave how I want it to. I have also learnt to ask people to disclose their thoughts on vibecoding before I ask them if they want to make a team together.
What's next for Y2Kopoly
The next step for Y2Kopoly is for me to begin learning javascript so I can fully rewrite the backend code in a way I understand and then integrate the backend into the frontend.
