In the year 2222, common resources used today to produce clothing materials like cotton, leather, and wool will be fully depleted due to water scarcity. We believe that in the year 2222, today’s mistakes of overconsumption and fast fashion will lead to an overabundance of discarded fabrics, and the style of recycled fashion will not only be popular, but a necessity. Our outfit is a futuristic take on modern day streetwear, The back of our outer layer exhibits motivating and powerful words to highlight the hypocrisy of large enterprises promoting human unity in a universe where social classes are worlds apart. The irony of the entire outfit lies in the fact that these words lose their meaning when the world has reached a point of doom. In the year 2222, commercialization will be at its peak, and leading corporations will capitalize off of marketing recycled clothing as “trendy” and “desirable,” when in reality, they simply have exhausted their resources for fresh clothing material. Our piece resembles what such corporations would advertise as “the peak of fashion” in the year y22k.
