Inspiration
Long hospital queues, confusion in appointment booking, and staff overload inspired us to create an AI assistant that automates patient interaction and makes healthcare access smoother.
What it does
MediAssist is an AI-powered hospital appointment assistant that lets patients book, edit, and manage appointments through chat, voice, or phone. It also answers FAQs and provides instant, 24/7 support.
How we built it
We used IBM’s Agent Development Kit (ADK) with the Granite models for natural language understanding, combined with a structured hospital knowledge base and voice integration for omnichannel access.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating voice and chat seamlessly, designing a reliable scheduling system that reduces no-shows, and handling medical domain FAQs with accuracy.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a working AI agent that can book and manage appointments across hospital branches, designed an omnichannel system (chat, voice, call) with real-time support, and demonstrated measurable impact in reducing hospital staff workload.
What we learned
How to design agentic AI workflows using IBM’s ADK, the importance of structured knowledge bases for healthcare FAQs, and Real-world deployment challenges in hospitals (scalability, reliability, compliance).
What's next for Medi-Assist
Expand integrations with hospital management systems (EMRs), and add multilingual and regional language support, scale MediAssist as a plug-and-play solution for hospitals across India.
