🌟 Inspiration
AkiliQuest was born from a simple, powerful question: What if learning felt more like an adventure than an assignment?
I wanted to reimagine how people explore knowledge—whether by diving deeper into a single topic or making surprising connections across fields. Inspired by the limitless potential of AI and the power of curiosity, I envisioned a tool that sparks intellectual discovery and gamifies the learning journey.
🔍 What it does
AkiliQuest is an AI-powered curiosity platform that allows users to:
- Input any topic and explore a branching "Chain of Curiosity" through related subtopics.
- Generate real-time AI summaries using Google Cloud’s Vertex AI.
- Visualize their learning path as a dynamic “Curiosity Map.”
- Gamify their journey with curiosity scores and progress tracking.
- Share their unique curiosity trails with friends and the world.
Whether you're a student, researcher, or lifelong learner, AkiliQuest makes learning engaging, interdisciplinary, and deeply personalized.
🛠️ How I built it
I built AkiliQuest using:
- Frontend:
Next.js 15,TypeScript,TailwindCSS, andShadCN UIfor accessible components. - AI Integration: Google Cloud Vertex AI for generating intelligent content summaries and topic connections.
- Database: MongoDB Atlas with Vector Search to store and retrieve semantically related knowledge paths.
- Deployment: Hosted on Google Cloud Platform using Cloud Run, Firebase Hosting, and Firestore for lightweight state syncing.
- Version Control: GitHub for collaborative development and tracking.
🚧 Challenges I ran into
- Data Complexity: Designing a schema that supports non-linear, interconnected knowledge paths was complex.
- Vector Search Tuning: Making topic suggestions relevant and meaningful required significant trial and error.
- Time Constraints: Building an AI-powered MVP in a few days with limited data science background was demanding.
- User Experience Design: Crafting a UI that balances curiosity, clarity, and interactivity was a big design challenge.
🏆 Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Delivered a working MVP that blends clean design, AI-powered exploration, and user engagement.
- Designed an intuitive curiosity-driven UI and graph-based topic visualization.
- Created a scalable learning platform that can evolve into a powerful educational tool.
📚 What I learned
- Practical skills in integrating Google Cloud’s AI and vector search tools.
- How to structure an educational app for exploration, not just information delivery.
- The value of designing for emotional engagement—curiosity, surprise, and joy.
🚀 What's next for AkiliQuest
- Introduce personalized learner journeys, user profiles, and achievement streaks.
- Add gamified elements like badges, curiosity levels, and shared quests.
- Support multimedia learning through audio/video integration and multilingual summaries.
- Expand integration with Google tools like Classroom or Docs.
- Empower educators to build guided curiosity paths and analyze student growth.
