Every year, tax season feels overwhelming: we scramble to remember expenses, dig up old receipts, and realize too late that we’ve missed valuable tax deductions. It’s easy to lose track of the little things—daily travel costs, small work-related purchases, or charitable donations—and those small amounts add up.

That’s why we created ChillTax: a smart, simple way to track your expenses throughout the year, making tax time stress-free. By documenting your expenses as they happen, you ensure you won’t miss a single cent on your tax refund.

To make the process even smoother, we use Perplexity AI to automatically categorize your expenses into tax-relevant categories. This way, you can focus on living your life, while ChillTax helps you stay prepared—step by step, day by day.

Challenges we ran into

1️⃣ Tax Compliance and Regulations Navigating tax laws in Europe, especially in countries like Germany, was a major challenge. Strict regulations mean that only verified tax professionals can provide individual tax advice or services. This shaped our product scope—we focus on tax data preparation and tracking, not on offering full tax advisory services.

2️⃣ Defining AI Capabilities for Tax Prep Another challenge was determining how AI can best support tax preparation. Should it categorize expenses? Detect deductible patterns? Suggest potential savings? We’re constantly refining our AI features to balance accuracy, compliance, and user trust—ensuring it’s helpful without crossing into areas reserved for tax professionals. dev:
