Inspiration

The idea for XR Odyssey came from the need to make UX principles in XR more accessible to designers. Many struggle to translate traditional UX knowledge into immersive environments, and I wanted to create a fun, hands-on way to bridge this gap. The Solar Punk theme was inspired by my desire to envision a future where technology and nature coexist harmoniously, creating a world that’s both engaging and educational.

What it does

XR Odyssey is an educational mixed reality game that teaches key UX principles, such as spatial awareness, user comfort, and immersion. Players explore a Solar Punk village that dynamically integrates into their real-world environment. By solving puzzles inspired by real-world XR design challenges, players unlock new areas of the village and gain practical insights into designing better user experiences in XR.

How i built it

The project was built using:

  • Miro to design the concept
  • Figma to make UIs
  • ShapesXR to build the prototype

Challenges i ran into

  1. Player Interaction Design: Designing intuitive MR controls that didn’t disrupt immersion required extensive testing and iteration.
  2. Educational Engagement: Balancing educational content with engaging gameplay took and will take multiple iterations to refine.

Accomplishments that i'm proud of

  • Designing puzzles that not only entertain but also teach core UX principles effectively.

What's next for XR Odyssey

The next steps for XR Odyssey include:

  • Expanding the range of puzzles to cover more advanced UX principles.
  • Finding people to help me finished the XR game design document and build the game
  • Refining accessibility features to ensure the game is inclusive for all players.
