XploitSim – Interactive OWASP Vulnerability Sandbox

Inspiration: While learning cybersecurity during a certification, we noticed that most lessons were theoretical. Unlike fields such as DSA or IoT, cybersecurity lacked an interactive, hands-on way to understand attacks. This inspired us to create XploitSim — a platform that lets learners experience and analyze vulnerabilities safely.

What It Does: XploitSim simulates OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities in a sandboxed environment, starting with Authentication Failures. Each module includes theory, a live simulation, exploit walkthrough, and prevention tips, allowing users to learn by interacting rather than memorizing.

How We Built It: Developed using React and Node.js, the project isolates each vulnerability within a secure sandbox. We used GitHub for collaboration and deployed the platform through Netlify for easy public access.

Challenges: Designing a realistic yet safe sandbox environment was the hardest challenge.

What’s Next: We plan to expand XploitSim into a complete educational platform with more OWASP modules, interactive challenges & quizzes, and instructor dashboards for classrooms and training institutes.
