Inspiration

"Clank the Clanker" was born out of criticism. I kept being called a "clanker" because I use AI to make my videos, so I decided to flip the insult on its head and turn it into a character. I wrote the song that Clank performs and built an entire world around him. The project became a playful rebellion, celebrating creativity and imagination while directly embracing the label meant to dismiss it.

What I Learned

This project taught me how to fully merge music, storytelling, and character-driven animation into one cohesive experience. Unlike my documentary work, "Clank the Clanker" leaned into humor, satire, and absurdity. I learned how to synchronize AI-generated animation with rhythm, bring multiple stylized characters into a shared scene, and create the energy of a massive party that feels alive and spontaneous.

How I Built It

The backbone of the project is the original track I wrote and produced for Clank. From there, I designed Clank as a steampunk junkyard robot with personality, awkward charm, and bold presence. I brought in all the other characters I had developed (Slorgma, Afroman, Moonhead Mark, Vernon the Vendor, and more) to create a bustling street party atmosphere. The finale pays homage to "Soul Train," reimagined as the "Slop Train," reclaiming the phrase often used to dismiss AI art as "slop." Tools like KlingAI, KreaAI, Hedra and VEO3 handled animation and lip sync, while CapCut tied everything together into a polished music video.

Challenges

One of the main challenges was consistency. With so many characters and moving parts, I had to constantly refine prompts and references to keep the designs steady across shots. Another challenge was balancing chaos and clarity: I wanted the energy of a wild street party, but the viewer still needed to follow Clank as the centerpiece performer. Finding that balance required multiple iterations and careful editing.

Outcome

"Clank the Clanker" turned an insult into a celebration. It is a bold, funny, and unapologetic music video that gathers together the cast of characters I’ve developed so far into one massive event. The project is part satire, part spectacle, and part dance floor, showing that AI can be more than just a tool. It can create community, reclaim narratives, and transform negativity into art worth celebrating.
