Challenges we ran into
Optimizing for Diverse Network Types Maintaining Throughput with High Packet Loss Security in Transit*
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Achieved stable performance even on low quality networks, proving real world utility. Created a simple, user friendly interface that shows live status and transfer insights.
What we learned
How to apply networking theory (TCP, reliability, packet handling) in a practical project. The importance of error handling, synchronization, and state recovery in real systems. How threading and concurrency improve performance and responsiveness. The balance between speed, security, and reliability in designing real-world data systems.
What's next for Xfer
Next, we're implementing peer-to-peer transfer capabilities for multi-site scenarios where files need to reach multiple destinations. We're building intelligent caching layers so frequently transferred files can be pre-positioned closer to endpoints. Machine learning integration is planned to predict network failures before they happen and proactively adjust transfer strategies. We want to add protocol flexibility ,supporting not just HTTP/HTTPS but also satellite links, mesh networks, and even sneakernet scenarios with physical media tracking. Finally, we're exploring blockchain-based transfer verification for regulated industries that need immutable proof of data delivery. The goal is to make Xfer the universal solution for file transfer in any environment, no matter how challenging.
