Neurological disorders are diseases that affect the brain, spinal cord and nerves which in turn may cause problems with memory, movement and cognitive abilities. Common ones include Alzheimer’s disease characterized by a gradual loss of memory, brain tumours with uncontrollable growth of abnormal cells in the brain; and Multiple Sclerosis (MS), which is an autoimmune condition that attacks the protective cover of nerve fibres. Millions of people are affected by these disorders around the world, and they create great difficulties to healthcare systems worldwide, especially in areas where there is a lack of neurological subspecialists.
