Inspiration
We were inspired by the purpose and mission of Uplift in their fight against online sexual harassment. In researching the issue, we found a serious lack of resources for victims of nonconsensual pornography, also known as "revenge porn." Websites that provided information were either too sterile with legal information or inaccessible to the average user. We wanted to create a site that was minimal, clean, and contained easy to digest information for victims of this specific type of harassment.
How I built it
This site was built with HTML and CSS.
Challenges I ran into
We were all beginners with these front end languages, so there were several hurdles with understanding how to set up layout, columns, and formatting. We were able to get a lot of assistance from our mentor Cassie, lessons from Code Academy, and a lot of googling when running into problems.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are proud of building a website from the ground up with no prior experience in any coding, as well as being able to collaborate with a team we had just met on Saturday.
What I learned
We learned about the basics of HTML and CSS. For the future, we are all excited to learn more front end languages like Javascript, Jquery, and Ruby on Rails.
What's next for wwarp — wellesley women against revenge porn
We hope to be able to integrate our website with the existing Uplift site to provide an extra resource to victims of revenge porn.
