Inspiration

We were inspired most by leading apps in the mental health space (i.e Headspace) and their cartoon-y approach to wellness. We took a modern spin on mindfulness and combined it with the thriving wearables industry to create a fantastical product that not only educates you based on the content you watch but also helps you regulate your emotions.

What it does

Wut, pronounced as "woot" to be true to its German origin or "what" if you're us, is both a wearable and a mobile app. It tracks your heart rate and stress levels and when it notices a spike in either, it refers back to the mobile application on your phone to check if any current activity could be the cause of it. Then, it conducts background research to identify whether the source of your stress is based in truth, misinformation, or engagement-bait. It notifies you, the user, accordingly and provides proper insights in the application. Wut tracks your patterns over weeks, months, and years, categorizing them further into "ragebait" vs. "valid crashouts."

How we built it

As part of the requirements for FigBuild 2026, this application was realized and all relevant animations were made through Figma Make, which is Figma's premier AI-based design tool. We started with sketches, frame-by-frame layouts of our vision for the application, and worked to integrate all these moving pieces through the Figma Make application.

Challenges we ran into

We completely redid our idea halfway through FigBuild. Our initial concept was for a wearable that allowed you to measure your pain perception and exactly where it took place. We noticed the design complexities as it pertained to target audience, uniqueness from pre-existing products, as well as the app's general functionality. After pivoting to the ragebait concept, we struggled most with the product UI. We considered questions like: Would it be something just for young people? If not, its reliance on slang would heavily limit its reach. Nonetheless, we framed our solution concretely and upon any confusions, referred back to our moodboard and initial mapping for the project's guidelines.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're super proud of our animations, video for the project, and art assets for the application. Thinking back just a few days ago to the start of this project, we're really proud of our ability to narrow our concept down & be able to create a concrete user-experience for technology that isn't even possible yet.

What we learned

Some of us were unfamiliar with Figma Make and we got to finally play around with its capabilities! We manually edited much of the code and got to experiment with working between Figma Slides, Figma Make, and Figma (the regular design tool). The cross-functionality of each tool and the capability to be able to read information/designs across platforms is really powerful.

What's next for Wut

Scaling! Until technology allows us to make a magical necklace that can track stress and heart rate, we want to see what Wut could look like in today's mental health and wellness market. Our idea is actually not too out of reach and simplifying the wearable concept or limiting the context provided by the application even a little bit allows for this idea to become a reality.
