Inspiration

"I'll do it someday."

We've all said it. That solo trip. That career leap. That dream life we scroll past on Instagram every day.

But for ambitious women—the ones juggling careers, relationships, and big dreams—"someday" becomes "never." Not because they're not capable. Because they're waiting: for permission, for confidence, for a sign that says "this is meant for you."

That's the gap we wanted to close with Wuka.

Inspired by Gabby Beckford's community of women building dream lives—traveling solo, negotiating six-figure salaries, achieving financial freedom—we realized the problem wasn't inspiration. It was action. There's a massive gap between dreaming and doing, and most apps either:

  • Give you endless motivation (but no next step), or
  • Overwhelm you with productivity tools (that make dreams feel like chores)

Wuka is different. It combines mindset with micro-actions. Daily wins. Bucket-list dreams. Challenges that whisper: "You don't need permission. Just take the first step."

And when you achieve a dream? Confetti. Because you earned it.

What It Does

Wuka helps ambitious women go from dreaming to doing.

Core Features:

📝 Daily Wins
Log small victories and build momentum. Because some days you need to celebrate every single thing.

✨ Bucket-List Dreams
Add your big goals: solo trip to Japan, career pivot, $100k salary, financial freedom. Break them into milestones. Set target dates. When you achieve one? The app throws you a confetti party. (Because you did the damn thing.)

🚀 Daily Challenges
Curated micro-actions for career, travel, money, and mindset:

  • "Research 3 salary benchmarks in your field" (15 min)
  • "DM someone who inspires you and say thank you" (5 min)
  • "Google flights to your #1 bucket list destination" (10 min)

Each challenge includes a "why it matters" message that speaks directly to women who've been told their ambitions are "too much."

🎮 Gamification That Actually Motivates
Streaks. Achievements. Progress tracking. Not to guilt you—but to show you proof that you're becoming the person who takes action.

How We Built It

We knew we had 48 hours to ship a complete loop—onboarding → wins → challenges → dreams → celebration → premium—so we had to move fast and make smart tradeoffs.

Tech Stack:

  • Flutter for iOS & Android with a single codebase
  • Provider for state management (wins, dreams, challenges, streaks, achievements)
  • RevenueCat for subscriptions, paywall, and pro entitlements
  • Local persistence (SharedPreferences) so the app works offline and loads instantly
  • Curated content written in Dart (career, travel, money, mindset challenges) aligned to the brief

Architecture Philosophy:
Keep it simple. Ship the full experience. Polish the details that matter most (celebration animations, copy that speaks to the audience, smooth onboarding flow).

Challenges We Ran Into

1. The Splash Screen Black Hole

Initially, we had: Splash → Loading screen → Check onboarding → Home.

It felt broken. Like the app was stuttering before it even started.

The fix? Run the onboarding check during the splash animation. Now it's: Splash → (checking in background) → Home. One smooth transition. No awkward loading screens. It sounds small, but it changed how the app feels.

2. Writing for the Audience

Generic productivity apps say: "Track your goals!"
Wuka says: "You don't need permission to book that flight."

Making the app feel built for this community meant rewriting every piece of copy—onboarding, paywall, empty states, celebration messages—so women see themselves in it. Not just "users." Ambitious women who are tired of waiting.

3. Free vs. Pro Without Killing the Experience

We didn't want a paywall that felt punishing. So:

  • Core features (wins, dreams, challenges) are free
  • Pro unlocks unlimited (not exclusive) features
  • The paywall copy focuses on investing in yourself, not FOMO

Wiring RevenueCat entitlements to these features—and making restore purchases work reliably—took iteration, but it's solid now.

Accomplishments We're Proud Of

Shipped a complete "dreaming to doing" loop in 48 hours
RevenueCat integrated end-to-end (entitlements, paywall, restore)
Copy that speaks to the brief: "You didn't wait for permission—you made it happen"
No post-splash loading screen (smooth UX from second one)
Curated challenges that explicitly touch solo travel, salary negotiation, financial freedom, and "permission anxiety"
Confetti celebration that makes achieving dreams feel memorable

But honestly? The thing we're most proud of is this:

The app feels like it's for someone. Not "users." Women who want to travel solo, negotiate fearlessly, and build lives that don't fit in anyone else's box.

What We Learned

Small UX details compound

One extra screen (the post-splash loading screen) made the app feel amateur. Combining async work with the splash animation improved perceived quality a lot. Polish isn't superficial—it's how users know you care.

Copy is part of the product

The same features feel radically different when the words name the audience and the problem. "Track your goals" vs. "Stop waiting for permission"—same feature, different emotion.

RevenueCat lets you focus on your product

Building billing ourselves would've eaten the whole hackathon. RevenueCat gave us a reliable free-vs-Pro story and a restore flow that just works, so we could focus on the experience.
