Inspiration

nullspace (無), was inspired a project inspired by by non-Euclidean geometry and impossible spaces. We wanted to make something where players could experience strange geometry instead of only reading about it.

What it does!

explore a creative web experience filled with unique rooms and puzzles that challenge the players to re-interpret the world throughout their movements in the world. Players can walk through portal-like panels, shift sizes and gravity, and interact with objects within the world's unique mannerisms.

Challenges...

The hardest part was making portals work properly. The player, camera, objects, gravity, size, and light all needed to change correctly when moving through a portal. Also, to continue incorporating and keeping the idea of the non-Euclidian part of the game proved to challenge the construction of the game mechanics.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

we learned (and taught) a lot about non-Euclidian geometry and spaces :) this is all one of our more favourite projects because of the unique project, so we all quite enjoy it.

What we learned

We learned a lot about 3D graphics within browsers, but mostly a lot about non-Euclidian concepts, and being able to integrate them creatively. For example, the portals, physics, and light shifts. One of our most important things that we got take away from this was continuing to persevere through new ideas and concepts. Since we found some challenges in developing the concept, being able to enjoy our work helped us move through the long process.

What's next for nullspace (無)

If we were to continue improving the visual experience, we would want to plan to improve the lighting, shadows, performance, accessibility, and support for more devices. In terms of changing it into a game-like atmosphere, we would add more worlds based on spherical and hyperbolic geometry, along with new puzzles and impossible structures, and create a more visually compelling and detail the backstory further.
