Inspiration

Currently, in the market, there are a lot of NFT platforms that support digital artists and graphic designers, but there is none for writers who love to write. Writers are always looking for ways to earn money from their work, and we know how hard it is to find a platform that supports you. So we built Writr, where writers, authors, and poets can upload novels, stories, and writings as NFTs and get profits from selling those. We want to bring literary writing into the digital space and we want to see writing in all kinds of shapes, colors, and sizes—from short stories and poems to essays and blog posts.

What it does

  • Ability to write using a feature-rich text editor
  • Mint your writings as NFTs
  • All writings are stored in IPFS, a high-performance distributed server network protocol
  • Listen to your writings as audio
  • Complete ownership of your writings
  • Ability to express all of your thoughts without the fear of censorship
  • Passwordless authentication
  • User-friendly interface
  • Fast, Reliable, and Secure
  • Built on Modern and Well-used Technologies like React, IPFS, MongoDB & NodeJS

How we built it

We have designed the whole app using Figma. For the frontend part, we used React.js and all the animations were made using Adobe Illustrator and After effects. We have used magic.link for passwordless authentication. For the backend, we have used Express.js to build the APIs and MongoDB for storing the user metadata. Also, we have used IPFS for storing all the writings. For the NFT we have created it using hardhat following the ERC721 token standard.

Challenges we ran into

Setting up IPFS in the backend and building the NFT smart contract. Problem with connecting Alchemy in the frontend.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The design of our application and the working of the app.

What we learned

Learned a lot about building applications on top of IPFS and building an NFT smart contract.

What's next for Writr

We want to release this application in the market as we think it has potential. As this project will be open-sourced, we welcome everyone to come and help us create this beautiful platform for all those writers out there who want to make a living out of it.
