Inspiration
Many writers dream of writing a book but struggle with consistency, motivation, or structure. Inspired by successful writing challenges like NaNoWriMo and creative sprints like Bolt, we wanted to create a space where writers—new and experienced—could commit to a 30-day journey and finish what they started. We also saw the rise of AI-assisted creativity and wanted to celebrate how tools like ChatGPT can amplify human expression rather than replace it.
What it does
Writers Hackathon 2025 is a month-long global writing challenge that empowers participants to complete a full-length book in 30 days. The hackathon features:
- A simple sign-up process
- Creative freedom across genres
- Encouragement for AI-assisted writing
- Submission via public Notion or Google Drive link
- A prize pool of $1,700+
- Special award categories recognizing creativity, impact, and innovation
It brings together a diverse writing community, weekly writing prompts, and publishing support for top creators.
How we built it
The landing page was built using HTML and Tailwind CSS, with mobile responsiveness and accessibility in mind. We used Bolt.new to rapidly prototype and deploy the site. Email submissions are handled manually via a dedicated inbox (nb@vimasa.co.in), and user flow is intentionally lightweight to reduce barriers to entry. We included a fixed Bolt badge to comply with hackathon standards.
Challenges we ran into
- Designing for both tech-savvy and non-technical writers
- Encouraging AI usage while maintaining originality and voice
- Handling diverse submission formats (Drive, Notion, etc.)
- Balancing inclusivity with enforceable submission guidelines
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Clear and inviting experience for both new and experienced writers
- 10 creative special prize categories that celebrate writing diversity
- Seamless integration of AI as a tool, not a threat
- Fully responsive and compliant landing page built in one shot
What we learned
- Writers are more motivated by community than competition
- Simplicity in process leads to higher participation
- Transparency in guidelines helps reduce edge-case issues
- AI can be a co-pilot without diluting human creativity
