Inspiration
I was inspired to build Write2Me after seeing how big of an issue loneliness is around the world. When I joined the RevenueCat Catfe, I noticed that everyone was speaking Japanese. With the huge time difference back home, I felt a bit isolated, and I realized how nice it would have been if a simple kind message from someone had popped up on my phone. That moment made me think: maybe I could create an app that gives people exactly that feeling of connection, no matter where they are.
What it does
Write2Me lets people exchange anonymous daily notes with strangers. Each day, I write a thoughtful or kind message, and in return, I receive a secret note written by someone else. It has become a small daily ritual that encourages empathy, patience, and connection in a safe, uplifting way.
How I built it
I built the app using Expo and React Native, with Supabase as the backend for storing notes and interactions. RevenueCat powers the monetization and paywall experience. I used Vibecode as a source of creative inspiration to shape the emotional flow of the app, and then worked with ChatGPT as a coding and creative partner to bring those ideas to life. My main focus was keeping the experience lightweight, intuitive, and enjoyable.
Challenges I ran into
One of the main challenges I faced was how to uniquely identify users without requiring accounts or logins, so the app would remain as frictionless as possible. I solved this by securely storing device information. Another challenge was designing a simple, calming interface that did not overwhelm the user, while still keeping the note exchange process meaningful and fun.
Accomplishments I am proud of
I am proud that I managed to turn a complex issue, loneliness, into a simple and delightful experience. Write2Me gives people a daily spark of connection with minimal effort. I am also proud of how I was able to combine technology, design, and purpose into something that can actually make a positive impact.
What I learned
I learned a lot about implementing screenshot sharing, integrating RevenueCat with Supabase webhooks, and securely storing device information without requiring traditional accounts. More importantly, I learned how to design an app that encourages empathy and accessibility through its simplicity.
What is next for Write2Me
Right now, Write2Me is all about Daily Secret Notes, a shared daily moment between strangers. If people respond positively, I would love to expand it further with new features, like community spaces where users can form supportive groups inside the app. My vision is to grow Write2Me into a platform that spreads kindness and builds meaningful human connections.
