Inspiration
We noticed talented DIY engineers in communities who are eager to work on more projects. Our team also noticed the increasing engineering needs within our own communities.
What it does
Wrench matches people who can build with places that need help. Schools, shelters, parks, and neighborhoods post projects. Local volunteers show up, fix, build, and improve where they live.
How we built it
We built Wrench using Node.js, Express, React, and MongoDB. We designed the data models, routes, and UI flow together, then used Claude to help generate and refine code fast.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a problem debugging and registering an account in the app was causing problems.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we went from idea to a working platform in a short time. We built real project posting, volunteer matching, and a clean interface that feels easy to use. We are proud that this project fixes a real-world problem.
What we learned
We learned how to make a real app that helps people. We learned to prioritize clarity, usefulness, and ease of use. Working with Claude also taught us to be precise in our instructions and product decisions.
What's next for Wrench
We want to add map-based project discovery where users can find projects near them.
