Inspiration
We wanted to attempt to alleviate a large issue that faces Worcester, and one of the most prevalent crises we encounter almost daily is homelessness.
What it does
This app aims to connect two demographics; those in need, and those who are willing and able to help them. Our main feature is called Requests, and it allows individuals in need to specifically request help or assistance in some way, be it asking for clothing donations, food donations, rides, or anything else they may need help with. These requests are then shown to those who may be able to assist with that request.
How we built it
We used android studio as our IDE and Java/XML to create the app itself
Challenges we ran into
Time constraints, knowledge gaps, inexperience, and bugs, bugs and more bugs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to create a working proof of concept from scratch, most of the time learning about the code we were implementing at the same time as we were implementing it. We are very happy with the way the app looks, especially for something that neither of us has any experience doing.
What we learned
We learned how to manage our time, focus on the important and feasible features, and we learned a lot about new(to us) Java and XML libraries.
What's next for WPI Hack 2021 Christian Shadis, Sebastian Serafin
We will continue working on this app, and more projects in the future and we hope to compete in more events like this. We had a great time.
