Inspiration
Finding something genuinely worth doing nearby is surprisingly difficult.
Event platforms are good at showing what is available, but not necessarily what is worth your time. Search results are often fragmented across platforms, promotional content can overwhelm useful information, and a popular event may still be a poor fit once travel time, price, schedule, and personal interests are considered.
WorthGoing started from a simple question:
“Given where I am, how much time I have, and what I like, what is actually worth going to?”
What it does
WorthGoing is an AI-powered local activity discovery and decision tool.
Users provide a few constraints such as:
- location
- available time
- budget
- interests
- how far they are willing to travel
WorthGoing then finds relevant activities and evaluates them instead of simply producing another recommendation list.
Each activity is summarized into a simple decision:
Worth a trip — strong enough to justify going specifically for it
Go if nearby — interesting, but probably not worth a long journey
Skip — unlikely to be worth the user's time under the current constraints
The goal is to reduce the time between “I want to do something” and “I know where I'm going.”
How we built it
WorthGoing is being built as a web application with a modern TypeScript stack. It combines structured event information with AI-assisted analysis to turn scattered activity information into personalized, explainable recommendations.
Rather than asking an AI model to invent activities, the system is designed around real activity data and uses AI primarily for understanding, comparison, summarization, and ranking.
What's next
We want WorthGoing to become more than an event search engine.
Future directions include better source verification, travel-time awareness, personalized preference learning, collaborative plans for groups, and a stronger scoring system for distinguishing genuinely worthwhile experiences from promotional noise.
