Inspiration
There is an ever increasing amount of natural disasters globally. This coupled with the vast amount of casualties due to these events inspired us to create a program that could bring awareness for people to know the best practices to increase their chances of survival.
What it does
Worst Case Scenario is a program that takes the user's location, displays a risk assessment for different local natural disasters, and then provides a packing list for either a bug-out bag if they need to evacuate, or a supply list for events that you need to shelter at home.
How we built it
We used txt and csv files to compile information, and then we utilized Unity to create a phone app that allows us to quickly grab the needed info for the correct disasters.
Challenges we ran into
Unfortunately, many of us did not have prior experience with C#, the coding language used by Unity. This caused a few hiccups, but we worked as a team and divided the work accordingly to help each other out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to create a program that can affect people's lives for the better, and we hope that people will use it!
What we learned
We learned different survival scenarios, how best to deal with them, we learned how to compile those databases into a user friendly program.
What's next for Worst Case Scenario
We are wanting to add comprehensive survival guides for all disasters, regardless of whether or not they are at risk for certain disasters, and we also want to include a more enhanced GPS function.
