🌿 WorryStone – Calm in Your Pocket

🎯 What Inspired Us

In moments of stress or anxiety, people often don’t need a diagnosis—they just need something that helps them breathe, pause, and reset. Inspired by the grounding effect of physical worry stones and simple breathing beads, we set out to create a minimal, calming space where users can feel safe and centered.
WorryStone is a mobile-first experience offering immediate, low-effort relief through scientifically-backed calming practices—breathing, mindfulness, and muscle relaxation.

🧠 What We Learned

We explored how short, guided techniques—like deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation—can reduce anxiety almost instantly. We learned that for many users, simplicity and sensory cues matter more than tracking or analysis. We also studied visual psychology and color theory to build a UI that feels safe and calm.

🛠️ How We Built It

We used Bolt and Cursor to quickly prototype and deploy the app as a responsive PWA. Core components include:

  • Breathing Bubble: Expands and contracts rhythmically with inhale/hold/exhale cues
  • Body Scan & Muscle Relaxation Prompts: Guided tension/release scripts with soft animations
  • Mindfulness Timer: Gentle countdown for short “pause” moments
  • Session Tracker: Tracks time spent in calm sessions using local storage
  • Tailwind CSS: Used for calm, mobile-first UI design with accessible color contrast

🚧 Challenges We Faced

  • Staying minimal but effective: We had to cut ideas like journals or visual gamification to maintain clarity and instant usability.
  • Designing real calm: Getting the timing, pacing, and animations just right was key—too fast or too flashy disrupted the intended effect.
  • Offline-first reliability: Making sure sessions work even with no internet, so users can always reach for WorryStone when they need it most.
