Abstract of worlunteers.org

Worlunteers.org is a societal experiment that aims to capitalize volunteers through donations. Therefore we offer a reward to donators in the form of a crypto token that can be used to acquire artwork.

The concept aims to create a circle economy that leaves each participant better of such that donations become treated more like investments into individual achievements.

Worlunteers separates in three different parts:

1. worlunteers.org
2. Social Capital
3. soca.market

At worlunteers.org we offer a free donation form to each volunteer who is willing to apply for donations. Each donation made is transfered directly to the volunteers account. Worlunteers.org is not involved in any money inflow.

Social Capital (SOCA) is a mintable ERC20 token on the ethereum blockchain. It is paid out to the donator in the same amount as the donation made to a volunteer. The mintable ERC20 token is operated like a central bank and can be created any time in unlimited amount. Social Capital can be exchanged at the uniswap decentralized exchange against other token or Ether.

Soca.market is a market place where Social Capital can be used to acquire artwork. Any payment made is transfered to the artists account. Not directly so far, since physical goods need to be shipped to the purchaser. Therefore worlunteers operates as an intermidiary to guarantee that acquired artwork reaches the buyers destination. After confirmation we transfer the SOCA that we received from the buyer to the artists account.

Special characteristics:

Worlunteers.org is completely transparent. Everything is build with open source software.

The amount of donations can always be compared to the amount of Social Capital paid out to donators.

Social Capital is running on the blockchain and any transaction made from the official worlunteers.eth account can be viewed on etherscan.

Worlunteers.org is based on voluntariness only. That refers to the volunteers the same way as to the donators and the artists. It is an open market place where people can appreciate each other.

In case of success we expect worlunteers.org to change the mindset of people away from competitive thinking towards colaboration. Therefore Worlunteers.org needs to be democratized on the blockchain as a secure and innovativ technology.

Problem set:

Worlunteers.org is operating a central bank which lacks democratization. Therefore we would like to figure out if there is any possibility to create a smart contract on the ethereum blockchain that allows for voting rights. The voting rights are supposed to be connected to the wallet that received Social Capital for the first time from worlunteers.org such that donators become voters in the worlunteers economy to decide over the utility of Social Capital. The contract should be non-transferable such that we can guarantee that the voting right is not sold to a third party. Of course it is still possible to sell the seed phrases but we are pretty sure that no one would buy seed phrases from a different person knowing that this person will still have access to the wallet.

Additionally we have to figure out if such a voting contract can/should be anonymous. Blockchain wallets are anonymous to the public but worlunteers of course will still know who the owner is, since we transfer Social Capital to donators only. Those are obliged to identify due to legal restrictions.

Economic implications:

In case of success worlunteers.org capitalizes volunteering. That allows for the valuation of work that is not recorded nowadays but accounts for Millions of hours worked.

If society accepts such an approach for volunteers we aim to increase the range of people allowed to ask for donations such that the redistribution of money is independent of governmental subsidies or corporate payments.

You can see easily why it is important to us to democratize the control of Social Capital.

The Social Capital token itself is also an economic factor. Just like FIAT currencies it uses Euro as a benchmark. But there is a difference in the value of social capital. Social Capital can never be more than one Euro in value since that is the amount which is required to be donated to a volunteer to receive one SOCA in return. It got some kind of „hard cap“ of value that make speculation way harder if not inefficient. But it can also return the invested amount of FIAT to the donator in case that the market value hits one Euro. That is pretty unlikely due to the mentioned reasons but it can be very close to it, such that there is almost no loss for the donator.

In fact it can be higher than one Euro depending on the decisions made by the voters, e.g. payout per Euro donated is reduced.

Societal implications:

In case of success worlunteers.org will add a colaborative work approach to the competitive one. That will bring people together since they can identify with the work of the volunteer itself. Moreover worlunteers.org is operating globally which allows for intercultural support, which is basically standard in any social network.

Due to the fact that art and culture are supported with the usage of Social Capital on soca.market we can also improve civilization all over the world in any kind. We focus on professional artists to offer proper rewards to the donators. Although we aim to support each other we are aware that people expect quality.

The surplus for donators results from the increase in value of the artists. Therefore we focus on professional artists and potential professionals like students from art academies.

Finally:

To sum up our work and our goals for this hackathon it is crucial that worlunteers.org becomes democratized and available on the blockchain. That allows for easy access under colaborative control without intermediary.
