Inspiration
What if I could make a million dollar website The_Million_Dollar_Homepage like Alex Tew, but make it live, realtime, gamify, and players come from each country? That statement had been on my mind since 15 years ago. As a backend engineer by trade, frontend heavy website seemed far fetched. Until Bolt!
What it does
http://world-war-3.app is the Million Dollar Homepage inspired social experiment game where players around the world NUKE it out
- trying to conquer a single unified world map
- one pixel at a time
- win the leaderboard
- in realtime!
- or buy a pixel forever for $1!
In times like this we can fight it out digitally on the 'net!
How we built it
We built it using technologies offered by Bolt! The frontend is built using pure react, and the backend is built with Supabase. Payment is done through stripe. Particles effect was done with three.js
Challenges we ran into
Nothing! The development was a breeze, and 15 million tokens later we have a working app!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As a backend engineer this wouldn't be possible without Bolt! My at work programming language is not even NodeJS! I have not idea how to use three.js!
A player clicked over 800 times for his country!
What we learned
Dreams can come true if you look for ways!
What's next for World War 3: Make pixels not war
We'd like to add game modes, and weekly wins! People around the world can NUKE it out peacefully!
