Inspiration
Being from the background of the Armed forces, it was always a challenging task to adapt to the culture and language of the city where my father gets transferred. This is how the idea of World-One-by-Words (WOW) came into my mind.
What it does
WOW is a Dictionary which is used to find the meaning, pronunciation, and other details about any word entered. It is a one-to-one language, as well as a one-to-other language dictionary.
How we built it
It is built primarily on Python, using requests and JSON module.
Challenges we ran into
It was challenging for me to run the audio pronunciation file in the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- WOW will grow in popularity throughout the world just the way mobile phones gained popularity.
- The literacy rate for all males and females that are at least 15 years old is 86.3%. So it will be helpful for 6.7 billion people.
- This project helps in searching for meanings faster compared to printed dictionaries.
- It also helps them to learn about the proper pronunciation of words.
What we learned
Through this Hackathon, I learnt to build a Python project using API
What's next for World-One-by-Words (WOW)
WOW is currently a one-to-one dictionary. We will expand it to one-to-other language dictionary.
