Inspiration

The global music industry is worth over $50 billion, with two major streams of income – live and recorded music. Like with everything else, the music industry is also trying to adapt itself to the post-pandemic world filled with virtual experiences and remote collaborations. However, this has been more challenging for musicians whose requirements of remote collaboration need much less latency than typically experienced through existing platforms. And as such it provides a unique opportunity for a solution that goes beyond standard recording or streaming solutions and enables musicians at different locations to rehearse, play and host events without having to be co-located in the same room.

What it does

In short, it's a Better Quality Zoom especially designed for handling low-latency musical interactions such as band rehearsals, online music classes, etc. Our future plans include adding features that allow us to host concerts or even stand-up comedy sessions and include features that allow audience feedback.

How we built it

The Verizon 5G network and AWS Wavelength compute at the edge

Challenges we ran into

Architecting the server Understanding the needs of musicians Reducing latency from 180ms to under 50ms

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Gaining user understanding by conducting 10's of musicians interviews Producing a working Demo

What we learned

Concept Building Utilizing AWS Wavelength for Application Deployment Storytelling Product Roadmapping of Future Features

What's next for World Music Room

Expanding platform that allows for hosting live concerts, jam sessions, or even stand-up comedy where not all band members need to be at the same location.
