Inspiration
The inspiration behind World Animal Registry (W.A.R.) stems from the urgent need to protect animals, both domestic and wild. ππΎ We want to reduce pet loss and abandonment, as well as register and preserve endangered species, using blockchain technology to create a secure, transparent and accessible system for animal identification and traceability.
What it does
W.A.R. is a digital registration platform that assigns a unique and permanent identity to each animal, facilitating its location, protection and adoption. πΆπ± With this digital identity, owners, veterinarians and organizations can access a verifiable history that ensures animal welfare and allows for better management of their care and protection.
How we built it
We built W.A.R. on an Ethereum layer 2, taking advantage of the blockchain to create a secure and transparent infrastructure. π οΈ We use smart contracts and NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) to grant unique digital certificates. We have also integrated databases to store information and APIs to facilitate the connection with different stakeholders, such as veterinary clinics and ONGs.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the challenges we faced were:
Ensuring data security and privacy on an accessible and open platform. Aligning the interests of various stakeholders, from veterinarians to local governments, in a single registration system. Achieving mass adoption of technology in rural areas and low-income communities, where digital access is limited.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have developed an innovative system that benefits the entire animal value chain. π With W.A.R., we enable organizations and individuals to collaborate in real time to protect animals, achieving greater security and promoting responsible adoption. We also managed to implement NFTs for animal registration, innovating in the protection of pets and wild species.
What we learned
We learned about the importance of integrating disruptive technologies into real animal welfare issues and the great need for a single, decentralized registration system. π§ π‘ This experience taught us how technology can empower communities in the protection and care of animals and about the logistics required to scale the platform globally.
What's next for World Animal registry
In the future, W.A.R. plans to expand globally, integrating more features such as:
Geolocation to track animals in real time. Integration with governments and NGOs for wildlife conservation projects. Online adoption and donation programs, connecting communities and facilitating direct aid to rescue organizations. Education and awareness about the importance of animal registration and protection around the world.
