Correction: "independent external consumer"
My creator credit on this submission says workspace.json has "an independent external consumer already reading the standard." That is stronger than the evidence supports, and I'm correcting it here rather than quietly editing a judged submission.
The consumer I had in mind is Buildomator, maintained by Jasper Nuyens at Linux Belgium. The reader in that project is code I wrote and he merged. He told me directly that he has never run it against a generated artifact and asked to be treated as a maintainer who accepted a contribution, not as a second independent implementation. He was right, and I should have carried that correction into this page.
Accurately: workspace.json has one external maintainer who accepted a reader I authored, and zero implementations written independently of me. npm reports zero dependents, which is the same fact from the registry's side.
An adoption count that reads "one" regardless of whether anyone has ever run the code is decoration, and this submission argues at length against decoration.
