Inspiration Employee burnout is one of the most expensive problems a company can face — replacing a single employee costs between 50% and 200% of their annual salary. Yet most companies only find out someone is struggling after they've already handed in their resignation. I wanted to build a tool that catches the problem weeks earlier, with almost no friction for employees.
What it does WorkMate is an internal desktop tool that runs silently in the system tray and serves a web interface accessible from any browser on the company network.
For employees: A searchable company contact directory (name, position, department, email, phone) A 3-minute weekly wellbeing check-in with 7 sliders (mood, energy, motivation, stress, work-life balance, team connection, accomplishment) A live composite wellbeing score that updates as sliders move Open reflection fields (anonymous) and a PIN-secured profile page
For managers: A real-time dashboard with team averages and a week-by-week bar chart Automatic burnout risk alerts for employees scoring below the threshold A full survey data table with heat-map coloured cells CSV export for HR reporting Employee management: add employees, reset PINs
Business impact: Saves ~2-3 hours per week of manual HR check-in emails Early burnout detection reduces costly turnover Centralised contact directory eliminates time lost searching for colleague info
