💡Inspiration for Kanban Boards

The inspiration for using Kanban Boards came to after reading the book "The Phoenix Project", when essentially gave me a peek into the real-world IT scenario and how using certain productivity tools can minimize unproductive and unplanned work while engaging resources to meet deadlines swiftly. As developers, lack of project management and organizational skills are the primary reasons which lead to difficulty, over-burdening, stress and a downfall in performance situations, hence using "visual" productivity tools becomes key to keep things regulated

😅How to Get Started

While a Kanban board can have n-number of columns depending upon the needs of the developers. The needs can range from Backlogs, To-Do, Work-In-Progress, Work-On-Hold, Code Review, Design Review, Testing and Commit to Main branch. A simple Kanban board for beginners can have 3 columns, namely -

  1. To-Do
  2. Work in Progress
  3. Completed And from here, it can be escalated further based on individual use-cases.

💻Application Used for Building the Board

The Kanban Board has been built inside the Notion application by utilizing the board template.

🏆Accomplishments To Be Proud Of

Kanban Boards have made life a lot easier. Things have become well-regulated and on schedule. There is no longer a lack of structure which takes away a lot of the mental-burden and anxiety that we have. Additionally, it helps in decluttering the mind by moving all the planning process to a visual tool rather than keeping everything in memory. The advantage is that the resources of the human brain can be put to better use in solving other problems rather than becoming a storage unit for data and planners. There is also 0% probability of forgetting things as all planning has been done in prior.

📑My Takeaways

The key-takeaway from this project would be that we need to stop considering that our brain has an infinite amount of energy and that we can do if we have the thinking capacity and the will-power. Technology has been created the improve the standards of living and it needs to be embraced. While the previous generations may have little to no reliance on technology in terms of enhancing productivity, we must understand that their set of problems were different from the problems we face today. Therefore, there is absolutely no shame in adopting technology for solving modern day problems. We are not becoming "slaves" to technology if we are trying to improve our quality of life through it.

⏭️What's next for Working with Kanban Boards as A Productivity Tool

In the near future, I am looking forward to creating my own application with a multitude of productivity tools which would have AI/ML integrations. Kanban boards can be further optimized and new tools can be derived in the future from the core-principles of Kanban.

While this may sound like a pipe dream, it is important for us to realize that pipe dreams must be chased as that is the only way, they could ever translate to reality!
