Inspiration

The inspiration for Eventify came from the desire to create a more vibrant, inclusive, and involved campus community. We saw the untapped potential of the diverse events hosted by Clark University, from workshops and seminars to cultural festivals and sports events, but we also recognized the challenge of bringing students together to make the most of these opportunities.

We were driven by the belief that every student should have the chance to enrich their university experience by actively participating in events that align with their interests and passions. We wanted to create a solution that not only encourages attendance but also fosters a sense of belonging and pride in our university.

What it does

Eventify is a user-friendly mobile application designed to enhance student participation in campus events at Clark University. It encourages students to explore and engage with a wide range of university activities, from workshops and seminars to cultural festivals and sports events. And when someone lose their items on campus after the event or in the campus, here we can report the item and you can also claim the found items from the application.

How we built it

Eventify was developed using a combination of technologies and tools to create a robust and user-friendly application:

Languages: Python Frameworks: Dash, Bootstrap Database: MongoDB Version Control: GitHub Deployment: Amazon EC2 instance with Ubuntu OS We leveraged Python for the core functionality, with Dash and Bootstrap providing the front-end interface and user experience. MongoDB was employed as our database to efficiently manage event data, while GitHub served as our version control system. The application was deployed on an Amazon EC2 instance running Ubuntu OS, ensuring a scalable and reliable platform for our users.

Challenges we ran into

During the development of Eventify, we encountered several challenges:

Technical Challenges: Implementing features like the reward system and the event check-in process required innovative solutions to ensure a seamless user experience.

Business Partnerships: Establishing and maintaining partnerships with local businesses to provide attractive rewards to students proved to be a complex task.

Sustainability: Ensuring that the reward system remains sustainable in the long term, with continuous engagement and relevance, was a challenge that we tackled head-on.

Time Constraints: One of the most significant challenges was the time constraint imposed by the overnight hacking event itself. The need to ideate, design, develop, and present a functional prototype within a short time frame demanded an intense, non-stop commitment from the team.

What we learned

Throughout the development of Eventify, we learned that students are eager to engage with their university, but sometimes they need an extra incentive to take that first step. We discovered that by gamifying event participation and offering tangible rewards, we could motivate students to explore new experiences, connect with their peers, and make the most of their time at Clark.

Our team also learned the importance of effective communication and collaboration with the university community. We engaged with students, faculty, and event organizers to ensure that Eventify would serve as a valuable tool for all stakeholders. Their input and feedback were invaluable in shaping the project.

What's next for Eventify

Eventify has already made significant strides in enhancing student engagement in campus events at Clark University. However, our journey doesn't end here. We have a vision for the future of Eventify and are excited to continue its development and growth. Here's what's next for Eventify:

Feature Enhancements: We plan to continuously improve the application by adding new features that cater to the evolving needs of our student community. This includes refining the event discovery process, expanding the rewards system, and introducing innovative gamification elements.

User Feedback Integration: We value feedback from our users and will actively incorporate their suggestions and insights into the development process. This user-centric approach will ensure that Eventify remains a valuable tool for our student body.

Scaling to Other Campuses: We have received interest from other universities about implementing Eventify on their campuses. Our goal is to adapt and expand the application to serve a broader range of educational institutions, fostering engagement in a wider community.
