Inspiration
As students, we repeatedly faced the frustration of wanting to build impressive portfolio projects but struggling to find the right teammates. Platforms like LinkedIn focus mainly on networking, while existing project platforms lack intelligent matching and ways to prove real collaboration.
Recruiters also struggle to verify what someone actually contributed to a project—most resumes only make claims without proof. This gap inspired us to build WorkExperio, an AI-powered collaboration platform that connects students and developers to build meaningful projects together while automatically validating real contributions.
The idea was born from our own struggles with team formation, skill mismatch, and lack of verified experience. WorkExperio is the platform we wished existed when we started our journey.
What it Does
WorkExperio is an AI-powered collaboration platform that transforms how students and developers find teammates and build portfolio projects.
Intelligent Team Matching
Users upload their resumes, and the AI automatically extracts skills, education, and experience. Based on project requirements, the platform matches users with complementary teammates to form balanced teams.
Real-Time Collaboration
- Real-time chat using WebSockets
- Task management with live status tracking
- Time logging for contribution transparency
- File sharing inside project workspaces
- Analytics-powered project dashboards
Verifiable Portfolio Building
- XP-based gamification system
- Peer reviews from teammates
- Automatic tracking of completed tasks and hours
- AI-powered performance analysis
- Verified project history that recruiters can trust
AI-Powered Features
- Resume parsing from PDF uploads
- Project idea generation
- Team role recommendations

WorkExperio transforms resumes from empty promises into verified proof of real-world work.
How we Built It
We built WorkExperio using a modern, scalable full-stack architecture.
Backend (FastAPI + Python)
- 18 REST API routers handling authentication, projects, teams, chat, and AI features
- Hybrid database architecture using PostgreSQL for structured data and MongoDB for unstructured AI logs
- SQLAlchemy ORM with Alembic migrations
- JWT-based authentication with bcrypt hashing
- WebSocket-based real-time chat
- OpenAI integration for resume parsing, team matching, project generation, and performance analysis
Frontend (React + Vite)
- React 19 with Vite for fast builds
- Zustand for state management
- Tailwind CSS for UI
- React Router for navigation
- Real-time chat via WebSockets
- Recharts for analytics dashboards
Deployment
- Frontend and backend deployed on Render
- Managed PostgreSQL database
- Secure environment variables
- CI/CD via GitHub
- SSL and HTTPS enabled
Challenges we Ran Into
Database Connection Issues
PostgreSQL connection strings failed due to special character encoding in passwords. We fixed this using custom URL normalization.
Real-Time Communication
Handling WebSocket reconnections, message delivery, and multi-user state synchronization was complex and required careful design.
Resume Parsing Accuracy
Different resume formats caused extraction issues. We combined multiple PDF parsing tools and AI-based structuring.
Team Matching Algorithm
Balancing skill diversity, experience, and availability required multiple iterations of algorithm tuning.
State Management Complexity
React Context caused performance issues, so we migrated to Zustand for better state handling.
CORS and Deployment
Handling Render networking, ws vs wss, and environment separation required deep debugging.
Database Migrations
Learning Alembic and safely managing schema changes in production was a major challenge.
Each challenge strengthened our real-world development skills.
