Inspiration
The idea that women are not capable of doing anything is a century old, and it was never a good one, to begin with. Women are part of our society, and they deserve the same recognition as anyone else. Even though our society is changing in a good way, it's clear that women still lack the resources and opportunities that allow them to make a substantial change in their life.
At the moment in Pakistan, women cannot work, and it's not because women are not allowed to work but due to the fact that these women face restrictions that seem impossible for anyone to resolve. Looking into these restrictions can show general problems that appear in different shapes and sizes. One of the most common problems these women face is the fact that even if they get a job they cannot go and work due to limited traveling options. These traveling limitations can include but are not limited to the safety of the passengers, the cost of the travel, and flexibility in travel times.
Another, problem women face in the work industry is the fact that they have quite limited opportunities as many business owners show a bias against them. Not all but many business owners think that only a male employee would be a good fit for their workload even though the job can be considered as a neutral gender one. Piling on this problem is another, that addresses another whole class of women who have an idea and enthusiasm to execute it but lack the knowledge or options to start a successful business. As an example, if a woman wants to start a business that requires a supplier she would have to go into a biased man dominated world and convince them that her business is a reliable one.
All in all, the problems faced by women are real and they need to be addressed at a level that actually improves their condition and I believe that my solution Workaholics is an effective one that can actually address these problems.
What it does
Our solution to this seemingly hopeless situation is rather simple. We intend to create an app that allows the female entrepreneur to sign up (at a cost) and get the opportunity to hire other female employees that have also signed up for the app with the intention of selling their skillsets. These female employees will create their bio and submit resumes underlining their particular skills and areas of expertise and the app will use artificial intelligence that will link up the interested parties. The app will also be open to already well-established businesses that can act as supply lines to the female entrepreneurs allowing them easier access to materials needed to keep their business running and the same artificial intelligence will be used to form the communication between these suppliers and consumers. The app will also provide options to the users to link up with each other manually.
Workaholics will give a platform for females to connect with each other and it does not stop there. The app will also provide some basic finance handling mechanisms which will remove the complexity of keeping track of orders, workers, etc. This platform will remove the unnecessary hurdles to help women achieve their life goals.
To show the power of this solution, we can consider an example of a start-up textile entrepreneur who needs a supply of custom designs. Normally, she would have to travel to factories, convince the owners that her business is profitable to them as well and hope that she would strike a deal but compare this to my solution where she does not have to worry about traveling or convincing the suppliers to have a good business relation because when she approaches a business for a deal, it will not show which business is asking for samples or orders. Hence, removing the biases in the industry.
My solution can cause a huge difference that can change the future of this country.
Challenges we ran into
The greatest challenge we ran into was to find an idea that will meaningfully help the women as all women aren't the same and cannot be considered as a class. Each woman faces a different kind of problem and challenge that is different from the rest and finding a common ground between these problems was the major challenge for us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The solution we came up with has enormous potential to grow and become something that can change the world. Our solution does not help one or two but the majority of the women which is the greatest accomplishment we could hope for.
What we learned
Working on this hackathon was an eye-opener because we never thought that women are facing these huge problems that no one is addressing. This is the best thing we could learn as this will allow us to look into future problems more innovatively so we can help all genders alike without discrimination.
What's next for Workaholics
Workaholics will expand to become a full-grown business that will not only be limited to an app. We plan to expand it to physical offices in the future that will set up the basis to hire old or new workers for our clients and these establishments can also provide a delivery based system for said clients who can use this option to receive products from the suppliers that Workaholic’s helped them in getting into contact with. The establishment can also provide other services for less privileged clients (those with little exposure) such as transportation. These services will not only improve our clients' experience with us but will also help in bringing more business. Furthermore, once the idea kicks off and gains momentum with proper funding we plan to improve the AI that is responsible for pairing interest-sharing clients which will lead to an improved and efficient system.
